If you treat marriage like a contract, don’t be surprised when it ends like one. A sweeping reframe of marriage—not as partnership, but as spiritual merger. Pulling from Kabbalah, Chazal, and trauma theory, it restores the sacred scaffolding of intimacy most couples never learn.

In every heart lies an unspoken yearning—a silent prayer whispered in the quiet moments of solitude. For many, this yearning takes shape in the search for one’s soulmate, a journey filled with both hope and heartache, patience and perseverance. “Rooted in Heaven” explores this profound journey through the timeless wisdom of Jewish tradition, illuminating the sacred interplay between divine orchestration and human effort.

Authored by Prof. Shmuel Neumann, this book is a compassionate guide for those navigating the intricate path of shidduchim and marriage. It provides both spiritual insight and practical guidance, framing waiting not as a passive act, but as an essential period of inner refinement and personal growth. Through the voices of sages, mystics, and everyday heroes, “Rooted in Heaven” offers comfort, encouragement, and clarity, reminding readers that their stories are meticulously woven by divine hands.

As you turn these pages, may you find solace in the shared experiences, wisdom in the ancient teachings, and inspiration to embrace the journey with faith and openness. Welcome to a narrative where the human heart’s deepest longing meets Heaven’s perfect timing.

In Jewish tradition, a match is not merely the coming together of two individuals but the profound union of two souls whose connection has been divinely ordained since the dawn of creation. The Midrash (Bereishit Rabbah 68:4)[1] quotes Rabbi Yose ben Chalafta saying that since the six days of creation, Hashem has been busy making matches: “בת פלוני לפלוני.” When asked by a Roman matron what God does after creating the world, he replies that He arranges matches, to which she scoffs, only to find that even her thousands of attempted pairings fall apart overnight. Rabbi Yose’s response reveals the sacred and mysterious nature of matchmaking, which cannot be reduced to human logic alone.

This underscores the sacred importance placed on marriage and the belief that each person has a specific match designated by Heaven. Yet, this preordained nature does not exempt one from effort. The Gemara in Sotah 2a[2] distinguishes between a “first match” and a “second match,” implying that while the first may be divinely ordained, the second depends on one’s deeds: “אין מזווגין לו לאדם אלא לפי מעשיו.” As the Zohar explains (Zohar Chadash, Bereishit),[3] even though all souls are created male and female together, they may descend at different times and in different bodies, and their ultimate union requires merit.

This interplay of divine providence and human initiative creates a dynamic spiritual journey, guiding each individual toward personal growth and greater faith in God’s plan.

This isn’t just a book. It’s a map for the soul.

Rooted in Heaven is a deeply moving, Torah-grounded journey through every phase of shidduchim and marriage. Drawing from Midrash, Zohar, Chazal, and modern psychology, Prof. Shmuel Neumann redefines what it means to seek, find, and become one with a soulmate.

With over 60 chapters, this sweeping work provides spiritual clarity and emotional validation to those navigating dating delays, heartbreak, readiness, and marriage itself. More than answers, it offers comfort. More than advice, it offers transformation. Whether you’re still waiting or already building a bayit ne’eman, this book shows that the road is not a detour—it is the destination. And every delay is not a denial, but a Divine preparation.

For anyone who senses their marriage is meant to carry more.
